Space station power short circuits, system repairs needed

On Friday, a short circuit caused one of the space station’s eight power channels to shut down. Several devices running on the channel powered off. The affected power systems have since been switched to alternate channels.

As SpaceFlight101 reported, most the systems that went down were redundant. No vital components completely lost power.

NASA told reporters that none of the astronauts are in danger and that the rest of power channels are functioning properly, but the damage may require spacewalk repairs. 

Astronauts must first wait for a new piece of electrical equipment to be delivered via a resupply rocket. A SpaceX rocket and cargo capsule will likely deliver the part early next year.

NASA spokesman Dan Huot told ABC News that everything is back to normal on ISS. On Monday, astronauts took time to honor the victims of the recent Paris terrorist attacks with a moment of silence.

On Sunday, Commander Scott Kelly marked his 233rd day on the space station with a spectacular shot of southern India.
